School District 25 selects Benjamin Cody to replace retiring Sheryl Brockett as next Century High principal

Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 Names Benjamin Cody as Next Century High School Principal in Idaho

POCATELLO, Idaho — Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 has selected Benjamin Cody as the next principal of Century High School, the district announced. Cody, who currently serves as assistant principal at Century, will assume the top leadership role on July 1, 2026, succeeding Sheryl Brockett, who is retiring after years of dedicated service to the Century High School community.

The appointment marks a familiar face stepping into a new role. Cody is a lifelong Pocatello resident, a graduate of Highland High School, and has spent 12 of his 14 years in education serving Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25. His selection signals the district’s confidence in homegrown leadership and continuity of vision at one of its flagship high schools.

A Career Built on Literacy, Leadership, and Community Roots

Cody began his professional journey as an English teacher, building a foundation in literacy instruction and learner engagement before transitioning into school administration. He holds both a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Pre-K–12 Education Administration from Idaho State University, cementing his academic ties to the Pocatello community he has called home his entire life.

Over his four years in school leadership at Century, Cody has focused on strengthening special education systems, developing school culture, and establishing aligned instructional practices across the building. District officials say his work as assistant principal has positioned him well to take the helm.

“Century has always been a special place to me — not just professionally, but personally,” Cody said in a statement released by the district. “I’m honored to step into this role and continue building systems that support our learners, align our staff, and ensure every learner has access to meaningful opportunities for success.”

Cody’s personal connection to the district extends beyond his own career. He has two children currently enrolled in Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 schools, giving him a parent’s perspective alongside his professional one — a combination district leadership cited as a meaningful asset.

Superintendent Expresses Confidence in Cody’s Leadership Abilities

PCSD 25 Superintendent Dr. Douglas Howell praised the selection, pointing to Cody’s deep community ties and his demonstrated commitment to building strong, collaborative systems within the school.

“Benjamin’s deep roots in our community, combined with his commitment to strong systems and collaborative leadership, make him the right choice to lead Century High School,” Dr. Howell said. “He understands what it means to be More Together, and I am confident he will continue to build on the strong foundation already in place.”

The transition also draws attention to the retiring principal, Sheryl Brockett, whose tenure at Century High School earned widespread recognition within the district community. While specific details of her years of service were not outlined in the district’s announcement, officials acknowledged her dedication and the lasting impact she leaves behind.

Cody’s appointment reflects a broader trend within the district of investing in internal talent — educators who have grown professionally within PCSD 25 and understand the unique needs of Pocatello and Chubbuck families. As a Highland High School alumnus, Cody joins a tradition of ISU-educated local professionals giving back to the Southeast Idaho community that shaped them. Fans of Highland’s athletic programs can also follow student achievement beyond the classroom, including stories like Highland High School senior Nash Randall’s recent signing to play college baseball in Idaho — a reminder of the opportunities district schools continue to provide.

What Comes Next

The leadership transition at Century High School is set to take effect July 1, 2026, at the start of the new administrative year. Between now and then, Cody will continue in his current role as assistant principal, providing an overlap period that officials expect will ensure a smooth handoff. District families, staff, and students can anticipate further communications from PCSD 25 as the transition date approaches.
