A 25-year-old Pocatello resident died early Tuesday morning after being struck by a semi-truck while crossing Interstate 15 in Idaho Falls, according to Idaho State Police.
The collision occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes of I-15. The victim was running across the highway when he was struck by a 2024 Volvo semi-truck. The semi’s driver, a 28-year-old from Manitoba, Canada, attempted to avoid the man but was unable to prevent the crash. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northbound I-15 traffic was blocked for roughly five hours following the incident as investigators worked the scene. State police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The victim’s name has not been released pending family notification.
This incident underscores ongoing safety concerns on Southeast Idaho’s major corridors. Earlier this year, a woman was found dead inside a Pocatello mobile home fire near Idaho State University, and quick thinking and family teamwork saved a motorcyclist in an Ammon canal rescue.
