IFYAC performing The Scarlet Pimpernel for spring musical

Idaho Falls Youth Arts Centre Brings ‘The Scarlet Pimpernel’ to the Stage for Spring Musical

IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Youth Arts Centre (IFYAC) is wrapping up its annual spring production of “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” with only two performances remaining for community members to catch the show. Final showings are scheduled for May 1 and May 2 at 7 p.m. at 3910 S. Yellowstone Highway in Idaho Falls. General admission tickets are priced at $20.

The production brings to life a classic story rooted in the drama of the French Revolution — a sweeping tale that blends romance, heroism, and political intrigue into a theatrical experience that organizers say the whole family can enjoy.

A Classic Story of Courage and Disguise

According to IFYAC’s website, “The Scarlet Pimpernel” is described as “a thrilling tale of love, courage and daring disguise.” The story follows an elusive, masked hero known as the Pimpernel, who risks everything to rescue innocent lives from the guillotine during the Reign of Terror — all while concealing his true identity from his new wife, Marguerite, and staying one step ahead of his nemesis, Chauvelin.

Dani Kohler, an IFYAC board member and committee lead for the musical, described the production in remarks reported by EastIdahoNews.com as grounded in a rich literary tradition. “It’s based on a novel based in the time of the French Revolution,” Kohler said. “It’s a beautifully played out show. If you’ve seen Les Misérables or anything like that… it’s one of those classics, around French political turmoil.”

Kohler added that the show — which features a cast of 21 performers — is “delightful, funny” and showcases “amazing acting and music.” One of the production’s standout elements, she noted, is the live musical accompaniment. “This musical has a beautiful accompaniment,” Kohler said in remarks to EastIdahoNews.com. “We love to do as many of our musicals as we can with live music. For this show, we have two amazing musicians on keyboards and two on percussion, so we have live music throughout which really makes the theater experience wonderful.”

Proceeds Support Youth Arts Education in the Community

IFYAC’s mission goes well beyond putting on a single spring show. The organization is dedicated to helping young people across the region discover and develop a love for the arts. Proceeds from the spring musical go directly toward supporting local youth programming — a commitment that reflects the organization’s broader investment in the next generation.

In addition to the spring musical, IFYAC operates a robust calendar of events and programs throughout the year. These include a fall musical, a summer theater camp for youth, and a year-long program called “Magic Makers” — a creative drama and technical theater program open to young people ages five and up. The organization also runs a mentorship program for youth between the ages of 14 and 18, pairing participants with experienced mentors for hands-on arts education.

“We love to have these kids learn and love the arts, however it fits in their life,” Kohler stated in remarks reported by EastIdahoNews.com.

Community events like this spring production reflect the strong tradition of family-oriented, youth-focused programming that continues to thrive in Southeast Idaho. For families looking for more community events this spring, tickets are also on sale for the Bannock County Rodeo, coming in May — another opportunity to celebrate local culture with the whole family.

Spring is also proving to be a banner season for Idaho’s student athletes, with record performances at the Tiger-Grizz Invitational highlighting the depth of talent emerging from the region’s schools.
