Idaho State University Names Seven to 2026 Sports Hall of Fame

Idaho State University’s athletics department has announced its 2026 Sports Hall of Fame class, honoring seven individuals whose contributions span decades of Bengal athletic achievement. The inductees include standout competitors in softball, tennis, basketball, and volleyball, as well as a long-tenured coach and a pair of longtime program supporters receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The formal induction ceremony is set for Saturday, October 24 on ISU’s Pocatello campus, scheduled ahead of the Bengal football team’s Big Sky Conference matchup against Portland State at the ICCU Dome.

Athletes Honored Across Multiple Sports

Hailey Breakwell earned her place in the Hall after a decorated softball career from 2012 to 2015. She was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Year in 2014 and closed out her Bengal career in 2015 by setting the school’s single-season assists record. Over four seasons, Breakwell accumulated 210 hits, 144 RBIs, 125 runs scored, and 21 home runs while maintaining a .367 batting average — numbers that place her among the most productive hitters in program history.

Mike Castrilli represented Idaho State on the men’s tennis court from 1992 to 1994, earning Big Sky Conference MVP honors in each of his three seasons — a remarkable run of individual excellence. He compiled a 59-34 singles record and a 38-21 doubles record, captured back-to-back Big Sky doubles championships in 1992 and 1993, and advanced to NCAA Tournament doubles competition in 1993.

Chelsea Pickering Hooker played women’s basketball for the Bengals from 2007 to 2012, emerging as one of the program’s most decorated players. A two-time First Team All-Big Sky selection, she earned Big Sky Tournament MVP honors and was a key contributor to ISU’s 2012 Big Sky Conference Championship. She finished her career with more than 1,200 points, making her the 14th player in school history to join the program’s 1,000-point club.

Tressa Lyman Page capped a standout volleyball career from 2011 to 2015 as one of the most honored players in program history. She was named the 2014 Big Sky MVP and earned First Team All-Big Sky recognition three times. Lyman Page helped lead the Bengals to the 2013 Big Sky Tournament Championship and the 2014 regular season title. She also earned 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, demonstrating excellence both on the court and in the classroom.

Coach and Supporters Round Out the Class

Brian Janssen is recognized for his 21 years of service as cross country coach and assistant track coach at Idaho State. His coaching record speaks for itself: he developed seven NCAA Division I All-Americans, guided more than 60 conference champions, and produced over 240 All-Big Sky honorees. Janssen earned Big Sky Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year recognition in 2004 and coached Paul Hoffman to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 2005. Beyond coaching, he helped found Idaho’s First Security Games and also captured two National Master’s running titles of his own.

Phil and Bekki Meador will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of their nearly five decades of dedication to Idaho State. The couple arrived in Pocatello in 1977 and have maintained a sustained commitment to the university and its athletic programs ever since. Their long partnership with ISU reflects the kind of community investment that sustains collegiate athletics well beyond any single season or generation of athletes.

The 2026 class reflects the breadth of Idaho State’s athletic tradition, from individual statistical achievements to team championships and behind-the-scenes support that spans generations. As ISU marks a major milestone in its institutional history, the Hall of Fame induction adds another chapter to the university’s legacy of excellence in Pocatello and across Southeast Idaho.

What Comes Next

The induction ceremony takes place on October 24 at the ICCU Dome on ISU’s Pocatello campus. The event is paired with a Big Sky Conference football game between the Bengals and Portland State, giving fans the opportunity to celebrate the new class and then watch the team compete. Additional details on ceremony timing and public attendance are expected to be released by the ISU Athletics Department as the date approaches.
