Century claims sixth-straight boys district tennis title, second girls title in a row

POCATELLO — The Century High School Diamondbacks reinforced their standing as the dominant force in District 5 5A tennis, capturing both the boys’ and girls’ district championships and extending a remarkable run of success for the Pocatello-area program.

The Century boys’ squad dispatched the Pocatello Thunder by a score of 80-33 to secure the program’s sixth consecutive boys’ district title. The Diamondback girls followed with a 70-43 victory over Pocatello, claiming back-to-back girls’ district championships. Century swept all five individual and doubles championship matches across both competitions.

Individual Champions Lead the Way

On the boys’ side, Tiden Lynn earned his third straight boys’ singles district title, defeating his own teammate Jude Davids in the championship match. Both Lynn and Davids earned berths at the state tournament. In boys’ doubles, the partnership of Liam McGee and Shep Butler took the title by defeating Pocatello’s Asa Northrup and Graham Farnsworth.

The girls’ singles crown went to Macie Sutton, who defeated Pocatello’s Jensyn Morgan to claim consecutive district titles. Both Sutton and Morgan advanced to the state meet. The girls’ doubles championship was an all-Century affair, with Bel Miller and Kate Spicer topping teammates Claire Frost and Lana Romriell. The Miller-Spicer duo heads to state with a perfect 25-0 record on the season — a mark that stands as a testament to their consistency throughout the year.

Rounding out the sweep, Nate Romriell and first-year mixed doubles partner Skyler Gates repeated as mixed doubles district champions, defeating Pocatello’s Josie Haymore and Peyton Hunsaker to send Romriell to state as a back-to-back titlist.

State Tournament Ahead at Boise Racquet Club

Century’s qualifiers will compete at the 5A state tennis championships, scheduled for May 15 and 16 at the Boise Racquet Club in Boise. The Diamondbacks enter the state meet with considerable momentum, having produced multiple repeat champions and an undefeated doubles team this spring.

The program’s six-year run of boys’ district dominance — combined with the girls’ back-to-back titles — places Century among the most consistent tennis programs in Southeast Idaho’s 5A classification. The Diamondbacks’ depth was on full display in this year’s tournament, with Century competitors meeting each other in multiple finals, a sign of the program’s broad roster strength.

Pocatello qualified multiple players for the state meet as well, with Morgan in girls’ singles and Northrup and Farnsworth in boys’ doubles among those earning state bids despite falling short in their respective finals.
