Swift Response by Deputy and Neighbor Saves McCammon Man From Burning Mobile Home

Fire engine responding

A Bannock County sheriff’s deputy and a nearby resident teamed up Thursday evening to rescue a man trapped inside a burning mobile home near McCammon, preventing what could have been a fatal outcome.

The homeowner was in the rear bedroom of the mobile home, located near Highway 91 and Dixon Road, when the fire broke out. Unable to escape on his own, he was pulled from the flames by the deputy and his neighbor, who arrived at the scene during the emergency response.

The rescued man was transported by medical helicopter to a regional hospital, where he received treatment for injuries sustained in the fire. The deputy and neighbor both emerged from the rescue without injury.

Rescue and Response

The dogs inside the mobile home managed to escape the flames independently and were not in the structure when the homeowner was extracted. Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Inkom Fire Department, McCammon Fire Department, and Bannock County Search and Rescue.

The mobile home was destroyed in the blaze. The rapid response and decisive action of the deputy and neighbor likely made the difference between life and death—firefighting experts note that mobile homes can become fully engulfed in a matter of minutes once a fire takes hold.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Both the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office and the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office are working to determine how the fire started.

The incident underscores the importance of emergency preparedness and the critical role played by first responders and community members who act quickly in crises. In this case, the deputy’s professional training combined with the neighbor’s willingness to help created the conditions for a successful rescue.

What Comes Next

Investigators will continue examining the mobile home and surrounding area to establish the fire’s origin. The homeowner’s recovery status has not been disclosed. Local fire officials may also use the incident as a reminder to residents about fire safety measures and evacuation planning.
