The Pocatello Parks and Recreation Department has added a remote-controlled lawn mower to its equipment fleet, enabling crews to maintain difficult terrain without walking or riding on steep slopes.
City officials say the new machine will help workers manage levees, stormwater basins, and trails at the Nordic Center more efficiently. Because many department employees are seasonal part-timers who leave after summer, full-time staff can now cover these hazardous areas with fewer personnel.
“The remote-controlled mower gives our crews another way to safely and efficiently maintain areas that can be difficult to reach with traditional equipment,” said Anne Butler, Parks and Recreation director.
Butler noted the acquisition aligns with the Environmentally Resilient vision outlined in Pocatello’s Comprehensive Plan 2040. She described the purchase as a practical step toward leveraging new technology for year-round maintenance tasks.
