Pocatello defeated Twin Falls 2-1 in double overtime Saturday to win the Class 5A girls soccer state championship at War Memorial Stadium in Sandpoint.
Aryanna Gonzalez scored both goals for Pocatello, including the game-winner with eight seconds remaining in the second overtime. The championship was Pocatello’s second and its first since 2024.
Twin Falls took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the second half. Gonzalez tied the match 10 minutes later before delivering the golden goal at the end of the second overtime.
Gonzalez finished her high school career with 104 goals. She missed the previous season while recovering from an ACL tear and a partial meniscus tear in her left knee.
Pocatello entered the state tournament after finishing third in its league and winning its fifth consecutive district title. The team defeated Jerome 7-0 in a state play-in game, beat Wood River 4-0 Thursday, and edged Hillcrest 2-1 in Friday’s semifinal.
Brynlee Pool scored both goals in the semifinal victory over Hillcrest. Pocatello won three games in three days in Sandpoint and finished the season with a 17-5-2 record.
