The National Weather Service office in Pocatello has issued a wind advisory for portions of southeast Idaho, including the Beaverhead-Lemhi Highlands and the Arco/Mud Lake Desert. The warning was released early Saturday morning to alert residents of deteriorating conditions expected later in the day.
Forecasters predict southwest winds will reach sustained speeds between 20 and 30 miles per hour, with gusts potentially hitting 45 mph. The advisory takes effect at 11 a.m. MDT on September 13 and remains active until 7 p.m. that evening.
Officials warn that the gusty conditions could create hazardous travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and RVs. Drivers in Bannock County and surrounding areas should exercise caution on open highways where crosswinds may affect vehicle stability.
The strong winds also pose a risk to property safety. Unsecured outdoor items, including patio furniture and yard decorations, are likely to be blown around or damaged. Residents are advised to secure loose objects before the afternoon peak wind speeds arrive.
