Madison Police Arrest Two Men After Hazing Investigation

Madison police arrested two 20-year-old men following an investigation into a suspected hazing incident at a fraternity house on Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a residence near Carroll and Langdon streets after receiving an anonymous tip. Inside the basement, they discovered approximately 30 individuals covered in food, condiments, and liquids. Most of those found were 18 years old.

Brayden Klein and Samuel Vane were booked on charges of hazing and disorderly conduct. Madison police stated that several of the men had visible injuries consistent with physical assault. Authorities noted that a thermostat in the room was set to 81 degrees, creating hot and humid conditions for those detained.

The group involved is identified as Alpha Epsilon Pi, an unrecognized and unaccredited student organization at the University of Wisconsin. The university terminated the chapter’s status in 2015. Despite this, the university stated that the chapter is legally permitted to operate unaffiliated with the institution because it maintains recognition from its national organization.

Captain Kipp Hartman said police will contact the national chapter regarding potential sanctions. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
