A shooting victim from an August 1 incident at an In-N-Out restaurant in Jerome, Idaho, has become the center of a community effort to support her recovery, with neighbors and volunteers organizing a daylong fundraiser on her behalf.
Isa Torres, who was wounded in the Canyon Park West shooting, received an outpouring of support when a kermés — a traditional community fundraising celebration — was held at Rancho Sandoval in Jerome on August 22. The event ran from 10 a.m. to midnight, giving community members most of the day to come together and contribute to Torres’ recovery.
Co-organizer Vikky Hernandez helped put the event together and spoke about the effort on August 20 at Centennial Heritage Park near the Jerome Senior Center, as first reported by the Times-News. The gathering reflected the close-knit nature of the Jerome area community and the desire among residents to step up for one of their own during a difficult time.
Torres shared a recovery update on her Facebook page on August 14, letting supporters know how she was progressing following the traumatic incident more than two weeks earlier.
