Stadium Renovation Enhances Fan Experience Ahead of Football Season
Idaho State University’s ICCU Dome is preparing for the 2026 football season with a significant exterior construction project designed to strengthen security while creating new entertainment and dining spaces for attendees.
The renovation marks the most substantial improvement to the stadium since a major overhaul three years ago. The work centers on a relocated ticket entrance, expanded concession areas, and a new patio zone that will allow fans greater flexibility during games.
New Entry Point and Security Infrastructure
The stadium’s primary ticket booth is moving to the north side of the stadium, approximately 100 feet from its previous location. All fans will now enter through this single northern entrance, with the south-side ticket booth closing permanently. The street fronting the new north booth has been closed to vehicle traffic to accommodate pedestrian flow.
ISU Athletics worked with the Department of Auxiliary Services and Campus Operations to incorporate advanced security screening. Walk-through metal detectors guard the entry gates, with a secondary screening table positioned to assess fans who trigger alarms. The no re-entry policy that previously governed stadium access will extend through these new security checkpoints.
Lowell Richards, associate vice president for auxiliary services and campus operations, framed the security additions as an opportunity for broader improvements. “We’re adding security, (but) that gives us an opportunity to do something more than just add security,” Richards told the EastIdahoNews.com in a statement. “It’s going to be a good change. I really do think it’s going to be a great change for our fans and fan experience.”
Patio Area and Expanded Concessions
A new perimeter fence wraps around the north, east, and south sides of the stadium, with a patio area positioned behind it. The space will feature casual seating and dining zones, along with lawn games including cornhole and yard games. An ISU apparel tent will occupy part of the patio, and a beer garden tent will offer both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages alongside additional concession items.
The patio design permits fans to exit the stadium during games and re-enter through the security gates—a change from previous years when exit meant forfeiting stadium access for the remainder of the event. This flexibility is intended to encourage longer stays and increased spending at concession stands.
Parking lot improvements include new striping to enhance vehicle circulation through lot aisles, and accessible parking spaces have been relocated to the eastern side of the stadium.
What Comes Next
The Bengals’ first home game of the 2026 season kicks off Saturday, August 29, against Virginia Military Institute. Fans attending the matchup will experience the new entry procedures and enhanced facility layout for the first time. ISU Athletics and campus operations are encouraging early arrival to allow adequate time for the new security screening process.
The renovation reflects ISU’s broader effort to modernize the ICCU Dome while maintaining the venue’s role as a cornerstone facility for Bengals football and university events in Pocatello and Bannock County.
