Idaho Falls Firefighters Contain Blaze After Neighbors Wake Sleeping Family

A quick response from neighbors and a delivery driver helped ensure the safety of a family during an early morning house fire in Idaho Falls, as first reported by East Idaho News.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department received a call at approximately 5:25 a.m. Thursday regarding flames at a residence on East 25th Street. Dispatchers were informed that the home was on fire and the garage was engulfed.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke and active fire emanating from the garage. Witnesses reported concerns that a family member might still be inside, prompting crews to initiate a search-and-rescue operation. However, neighbors and a delivery person had already alerted the sleeping household and assisted with evacuation efforts before emergency responders arrived on scene.

One neighbor helped extract a child from the basement during the chaotic moments. Firefighters confirmed that all family members had successfully evacuated; no one was found inside during the subsequent search.

The fire spread beyond the garage, progressing into the attic, along the exterior of the home, and up the garage wall. Utilities at the residence were secured by Idaho Falls Power and Intermountain Gas to prevent further hazards.

Chaplains assisted the displaced family with relocation needs following the incident. No injuries were reported in connection with the blaze.

The cause and circumstances of the fire remain under investigation by local authorities. The incident highlights the critical role community vigilance plays in public safety outcomes, particularly during early morning hours when residents are most vulnerable.

Fire officials have not released additional details regarding property damage estimates or potential charges related to the origin of the flames. The investigation is ongoing as crews work to determine how the fire started and why it spread to multiple areas of the structure.
