Davis Steps Down as Idaho U.S. Attorney

Bart Davis announced his retirement from the position of United States Attorney for the District of Idaho. His final day in office is scheduled for Oct. 17.

Davis was nominated by President Donald Trump on March 31, 2025. The U.S. Senate confirmed his appointment on Oct. 7. This marks a second tenure for Davis in the role; he previously served as U.S. attorney from September 2017 to February 2021.

As the top federal law enforcement official in the state, Davis oversaw a busy docket during his recent term. The office filed 298 criminal cases over the past year, charging 337 defendants. Those filings included approximately 103 drug trafficking cases, 89 violent crime cases, 69 immigration cases, and 22 fraud cases.

Notable convictions under his leadership include Juan Carlos Delfin, who received a 30-year sentence for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Another defendant was sentenced to five years in prison for identity theft, wire fraud, and theft of government funds. Shone Jem Bache received a 210-month sentence for sexual abuse of a child.

Davis acknowledged the support of Idaho’s congressional delegation in his announcement.

“I continue to be grateful to Sen. Michael D. Crapo and Sen. James E. Risch for their continued confidence and trust,” Davis said.

He also praised the staff at the federal prosecutor’s office.

“I am unable to overstate the privilege it has been to work with the dedicated and remarkable women and men of the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” Davis said.
