Century High School Sweeps District 5 Tennis Championships for Sixth Straight Year

Century High School’s tennis program secured dominant victories at the District 5 5A tennis championships held in Pocatello, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams claiming district titles.

The Diamondback boys captured their sixth consecutive district championship, defeating Pocatello Thunder 80-33. The Century girls won their second straight district title with a 70-43 victory over Pocatello.

Century Claims All Five Championship Matches

The Diamondbacks swept all five district championship finals, according to head coach Sean Kane. In boys’ singles, Tiden Lynn earned his third consecutive district championship by defeating teammate Jude Davids. Both players qualified for the state tournament.

The boys’ doubles title went to Century’s Liam McGee and Shep Butler, who beat Pocatello’s Asa Northrup and Graham Farnsworth to secure their spot at the state meet.

Girls’ Division Dominated by Century Athletes

Macie Sutton claimed her second straight girls’ singles district championship with a victory over Pocatello’s Jensyn Morgan. Both competitors will represent Bannock County at next week’s state competition.

In girls’ doubles, Century teammates Bel Miller and Kate Spicer defeated fellow Diamondbacks Claire Frost and Lana Romriell for the championship. Miller and Spicer will enter the state tournament with an undefeated 25-0 record for the season.

Mixed Doubles Title Rounds Out Championship Sweep

Nate Romriell earned his second consecutive district championship in mixed doubles alongside first-year partner Skyler Gates. The Century duo defeated Pocatello’s Josie Haymore and Peyton Hunsaker in the final.

What Comes Next

The 5A state tennis championships are scheduled for May 15 and 16 at the Boise Racquet Club. Century will send qualifiers in all five event categories as they look to build on their district success at the state level.

The Diamondbacks’ continued dominance in District 5 tennis reflects the strength of the program, which has now claimed six straight boys’ titles and back-to-back girls’ championships under coach Kane’s leadership.
