The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Erik Eduardo Navarro, 26, following a brutal assault on a 71-year-old woman in Crestline, California, as first reported by eastidahonews.com.
Navarro allegedly attacked Therese Garcia after staying at her home for six days. According to family members, Garcia initially invited Navarro inside after he claimed he had been robbed and needed assistance. For nearly a week, Garcia provided meals for the guest every night.
The arrangement ended when Garcia asked Navarro to leave due to his demanding behavior. Family members allege that while Garcia was sleeping on the couch, Navarro beat her with a metal baseball bat, continuing the assault until he believed she was dead.
Navarro fled the scene with Garcia’s personal belongings, including her phone, credit cards, keys, and an electric bike. Neighbors noticed something was wrong and requested a welfare check. Deputies arrived on Aug. 25 to find Garcia suffering from severe injuries.
Medical reports indicate Garcia sustained significant trauma to her hands and face, multiple broken bones, a traumatic brain injury, and a brain bleed. The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical expenses, noting that Garcia lacks health insurance.
