A juvenile male was killed and an adult man critically injured Saturday afternoon when a pickup truck rolled over in the Fort Hall Bottoms area on the Shoshone-Bannock Tribal reservation in Bannock County, Idaho.
The crash was reported at approximately 2:45 p.m. The single-vehicle incident occurred in the Fort Hall Bottoms, a rural stretch of tribal land located west and northwest of the Fort Hall community.
Both occupants — a juvenile male and an adult male — were ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. The boy died from his injuries. The adult male was transported by air ambulance for emergency medical treatment, indicating the severity of his condition.
The names and ages of neither individual have been released publicly. Authorities confirmed that the boy’s family had been notified of his death.
Investigation Underway
Idaho State Police are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Because the Fort Hall Bottoms lies within Shoshone-Bannock tribal land, the Fort Hall Police Department is also involved in the response. Both the Fort Hall Police Department and the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes extended condolences to the family of the boy who died.
No additional details regarding the circumstances of the crash — including speed, road conditions, or whether seat belts were in use — have been released at this time.
A Painful Reminder of Road Safety Risks
The tragedy follows a series of vehicle-related incidents that have shaken communities across southeast Idaho in recent weeks. Earlier this month, five children were sent to Portneuf Medical Center after a car struck a group of pedestrians near Ross Park in Pocatello, highlighting the region’s ongoing road safety concerns.
Rollover crashes involving ejection remain among the most deadly types of traffic accidents, with occupants who are not properly restrained facing dramatically higher fatality risk. Idaho State Police have not released whether restraints were in use in Saturday’s crash.
What Comes Next
Idaho State Police are expected to continue their investigation and may release additional details — including the identities of those involved — once next-of-kin notifications are complete and the investigation matures. The Fort Hall community and tribal leadership have expressed their condolences and support for the grieving family.
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact Idaho State Police. Updates to this story will be provided as investigators release additional findings.
This is a developing story. Bannock County News will continue to follow this investigation as new information becomes available.
