The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Falls Fire Department will square off on the diamond Friday evening in the 15th annual Guns vs. Hoses charity softball game, with all proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish Idaho.

The game takes place at Melaleuca Field in Idaho Falls. Gates open at 6 p.m., with first pitch at 7 p.m. on July 17th. Admission is by donation at the gate, with law enforcement officials suggesting $5 per person or $20 per family.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 8, representing the sheriff’s office, will face off against Idaho Falls firefighters in what has become an annual tradition of friendly competition in support of the wish-granting nonprofit. The event draws families and community members who want to support children facing serious illnesses.

BCSO Sgt. Bryan Lovell described the event’s significance: “This is a fantastic event where all proceeds support Make A Wish here in Idaho and fun for the whole family.”

Make-A-Wish Idaho grants wishes to children with critical illnesses, offering experiences and moments that bring hope and joy during challenging times. The organization serves children across the state, and fundraising events like the Guns vs. Hoses game help expand the organization’s reach and capacity to fulfill wishes.

The game represents a broader community commitment among Bannock County and regional first responders to charitable giving. In recent months, local firefighters have organized fundraising efforts to support colleagues facing personal health challenges, reflecting the strong tradition of mutual aid within emergency services.

Attendees can expect an evening of athletic competition, community spirit, and direct support for a cause that resonates with families across Idaho. The suggested donation structure makes participation accessible to households of any size.
