Idaho Falls Chukars Rout RedPocket 23-12 as Ostrander Hits for the Cycle

The Idaho Falls Chukars salvaged the finale of their weekend series with a thunderous offensive performance Sunday, defeating the RedPocket Mobiles 23-12 behind a rare hitting cycle from outfielder Garret Ostrander and a six-home-run barrage that left little doubt about the final outcome.

Ostrander went 4-for-6 on the afternoon, scoring five runs and driving in five more. He also drew a walk and swiped his team-leading sixth stolen base of the season. His home run in the seventh inning completed the cycle, marking the first time a Chukar had accomplished the feat since Trevor Rogers did so on August 3 of the previous season.

Offense Erupts Across the Lineup

The Chukars were not a one-man show. All nine players in Idaho Falls’ lineup recorded at least one hit, and the top five spots in the batting order were responsible for 20 of the team’s 23 runs. Idaho Falls put up runs in every inning except the third, with a six-run fifth and a five-run fourth and seventh each doing significant damage.

Sam Canton delivered the early punch, connecting for his team-leading 11th home run of the season in the first inning. Ty Dooley added a pair of long balls — a three-run shot in the fourth and a solo blast in the eighth — finishing with four RBIs and four runs scored.

Perhaps no individual had a more memorable afternoon than Justin Trimble, who celebrated his 23rd birthday by going 3-for-5 with three doubles, a single, and his 10th home run of the season. Trimble drove in four runs on the day, capping a remarkable personal performance in front of the home crowd.

In total, the Chukars pounded out 22 hits and six home runs across 23 runs — a dramatic departure from the previous day’s contest, in which RedPocket launched eight home runs in what became a high-scoring loss for Idaho Falls.

Series Context and Home Stand Standing

The three-game series between the two clubs produced a staggering combined 22 home runs, with RedPocket accounting for 16 of them. Saturday’s game alone featured eight RedPocket home runs. Sunday’s reversal gave Chukars fans something to cheer heading into the back half of a 12-game home stand at Melaleuca Field.

With the win, Idaho Falls sits at 5-24 on the season, while RedPocket dropped to 7-23. Neither team has been among the Pioneer League’s elite this year, but Sunday’s game showcased the offensive potential that can make Pioneer League baseball entertaining regardless of standings. The Chukars finished the first half of their home stand at 3-3.

The power surge comes at a time when the Pocatello-area sports calendar is filling up. Residents looking for more local excitement this summer can look ahead to Pocatello’s plans for a parade, concert, and fireworks to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, shaping up to be one of the signature community events of the season.

What Comes Next

The Idaho Falls Chukars will continue the second half of their 12-game home stand at Melaleuca Field. Sunday’s performance will give the pitching staff some momentum to work with, and the offense — led by Ostrander’s historic cycle, Trimble’s birthday bash, and Canton’s continued home run production — demonstrated that this lineup is capable of exploding on any given afternoon.
