Portneuf Valley Farmers Market returns May 2 with 60 vendors

Portneuf Valley Farmers Market Set to Open 2026 Season in Pocatello, Idaho on May 2 with 60 Vendors

POCATELLO, Idaho — The Portneuf Valley Farmers Market is set to kick off its 2026 season on Saturday, May 2, returning to Historic Downtown Pocatello’s Lookout Point with approximately 60 vendors already signed up and a lineup that includes returning favorites alongside new growers, artisans, food trucks and makers.

The market, a seasonal staple for residents across Bannock County and Southeast Idaho, will run Saturdays throughout the season, which typically extends through the end of October. Organizers say this year’s opening represents a continued commitment to supporting local small businesses and strengthening commerce in the heart of downtown Pocatello.

Live Music, Local Sponsorships Drive Market’s Economic Impact

Live music will once again play a central role in the weekly market experience, with performances scheduled throughout the season. According to market manager Ellen Loomis, the entertainment element is more than just atmosphere — it directly supports the vendors who rely on foot traffic each Saturday.

“Live performances encourage visitors to stay longer, explore more and support a wider range of vendors,” Loomis said. “That creates a measurable boost for small businesses each week.”

The music program is funded entirely through sponsorships from vendors and local businesses, keeping the cost off taxpayers and demonstrating the kind of private-sector community investment that makes events like the farmers market sustainable year after year.

Several vendors have stepped up at the highest sponsorship level to ensure live performances continue throughout the season. Those top-tier sponsors include Swore Farms, 2 Bees Farm and Garden, Transylvanian Treats and Snowie Pocatello. Additional community support comes from Silvercreek Realty Group, Station Square, the Mountainview Event Center, ICCU Field House, Shaver Pharmacy, The UPS Store, AT&T Pocatello, and Idaho Central Credit Union, which is serving as a major sponsor for the season.

Loomis said the network of partnerships reflects a broader shared goal: encouraging local spending, supporting small business growth, and keeping downtown Pocatello economically vibrant.

New Vendors Join a Growing Market

Along with dozens of returning vendors that longtime market-goers have come to expect, the 2026 season will bring several new food trucks, performers and small businesses to Lookout Point. The expanded vendor mix offers shoppers a broader selection of locally grown produce, handcrafted goods, prepared foods and services.

For small business owners and agricultural producers in Bannock County and the surrounding region, the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market represents one of the most accessible and effective platforms to connect directly with local consumers — a model that supports free-market principles by reducing dependence on large retail chains and keeping dollars circulating within the local economy.

The market has long been a showcase for the agricultural heritage of Southeast Idaho, drawing vendors not only from Pocatello and Chubbuck, but from communities throughout the region. Its consistent growth in vendor participation and sponsorship reflects strong community confidence in the market’s value as both an economic driver and a gathering place for families.

The privately funded sponsorship model that sustains the live music program and other market features stands as an example of how local businesses and community organizations can work together without relying on government spending to deliver meaningful public benefits.
